Image compression
Is the application of data compression on digital images.
Image editor
A computer program that enables adjustments to a photo to improve its appearance.
Image manipulation
Term that describes using a computer program to change a digital image (remove scratches, improve colors, increase sharpness, etc.)
Image resolution
The number of pixels in a digital photo.
Index color
This process minimizes the number of colors and file size of a graphic image.
Infinity
In photographic terms is a distant focusing point.
Infinity mode
A camera setting that overrides the automatic focusing and sets it to infinity so that landscapes and distant subjects come out sharp regardless of where the camera would automatically have focused.
Infrared (IR)
Light not visible with the human eye. Measured at the red end of the spectrum. They can be recorded on specially sensitized films.
Infrared compensation index
An index on a camera lens used to compensate focusing using infrared film.
Inkjet printer
A printer that fires minute jets of ink onto paper to make up a digital photo.
Instant picture camera
Camera producing a finished photographic print within a short time of the film being exposed.
Interchangeable lens system
The system of lenses of different focal lengths made to fit the same camera body.
Interpolation
A process, when a digital picture can be enlarged in size by adding new pixels to the existing grid.
IR setting
Mark on lenses for focusing infrared film.
IS
Image Stabilizer. It is a characteristic that minimizes the effects of camera shake.
ISO
Used to indicate the light sensitivity of a film or digital sensors.
